The short Ansina Street was and is a bastion of Montevideo's Afro-descendant culture. A neighborhood within Palermo with a special magic and a very strong bond with its inhabitants.
Evictions
Palermo and Ansina did not escape State terrorism which, as in other neighborhoods, forcibly evicted their inhabitants, dispersing them to the outskirts of Montevideo.
Reparation
Under a policy of reparations, some of the families forcibly evicted were able to return to live in the neighborhood, but not all of them. Despite good intentions, sometimes the symbolic is not enough.
